Mayor Pogi to take oath in Barangay Cutud

ANGELES CITY – Re-elected Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. on June 30, 2022 will take oath for his second term in Barangay Cutud, where he garnered the greatest number of votes.

Lazatin made it his personal tradition to have his oathtaking ceremony in the barangay where he got the most votes.

In the recently concluded National and Local Elections, Lazatin obtained a total of 7,178 votes (81%) in Barangay Cutud versus 1,719 votes (19%) for his opponent.

On May 10, Lazatin was officially proclaimed as City Mayor after amassing 112,953 votes (70%). This is the first time in the city’s history that a mayor was elected with more than 100,000 votes. His opponent obtained 47,561 votes (30%).

Lazatin won by a “landslide”, winning in all clustered precincts in all 33 barangays of the city.

Buong puso po akong nagpapasalamat sa mga Angeleño at binigyan nyo po ako ulit ng pagkakataon na pagsilbihan kayo,” Lazatin said, “Pinapangako ko po na lalo kong pagbubutihin ang aking pagsisilbi sa lungsod at sa inyo,” he said.

In his second term, Lazatin vows to bring the government even closer to the people starting with the modernization of the city’s six Rural Health Units (RHUs) and 28 sub-RHUs. Basic medicines will be made available and 24-hour birthing stations will be established in the six RHUs.

The City Government is also set to revive the free pap smear services through the Women’s Health and Wellness Program of the Gender and Development (GAD) Office.

The City Government will also continue its programs for Senior Citizens, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Solo Parents, Transport Sector, and the Urban Poor, particularly, the socialized housing program and the provision of social pension.

Lazatin said that the City Government will also focus on economic recovery in the ‘New Normal’, starting with the revival of the city’s tourism industry.

In the spirit of ‘bayanihan’, the Lazatin administration will launch a consortium of different stakeholders in a specific tourism area and establish cooperative arrangements between restaurants, hotels, entertainment establishments, and tourist stops to come up with a unified package for tourists.

The City Government will also continue its Angeleño First Program to encourage local business and promote the local industry through the continuation and strengthening of the “Gawang Angeleño” Campaign, as well as the furthering the reach of the One-Town, One-Product (OTOP) Program to invite more Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to partner with the OTOP Store in promoting their products.

Lazatin will also continue the Angeles City Watershed Reforestation Program of the city, which was started in his first term, to ensure a sustainable water source for future generations of Angeleños.

Joining Lazatin during the oath-taking are re-elected Vice Mayor Vicky-Vega Cabigting and the ten elected members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Arvin Suller, JC Aguas, Dan Lacson, Joseph Alfie Bonifacio, Marino Bañola, Jay Sangil, Raco Del Rosario, Alexander Indiongco, Edu Pamintuan, and Chris Cortez.
