Motorcycle thief dies in Bulacan encounter

CAMP GENERAL ALEJO S. SANTOS — A suspected motorcycle thief was killed in a hot pursuit operation on Friday in Bgy. Batasan, San Miguel, Bulacan.

Bulacan police director Col. Charlie Cabradilla said Rey Pangilinan, of Bgy. Ilog Bulo, San Miguel, Bulacan went to the police station to file a complaint after his motorcycle was forcibly taken by two unidentified men.

Authorities were promptly alerted and a hot pursuit operation was initiated. 

The police saw two motorcycles parked on the road along the San Miguel-Candaba Bypass Road in Bgy. Camias where the riders were changing clothes. 

One of the suspects suddenly drew his firearm and opened fire at the incoming officers. After an exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects, identified as Robin Atazar, was hit while his unidentified cohort escaped.

Seized from the suspect were a .38 pistol, 4 fired casings, 10 cartridges for a .45 pistol, a plateless motorcycle, a sling bag with two passports, a cell phone, P400 cash and personal belongings.

The Bulacan PNP remains steadfast in its intensified campaign against motorcycle-riding criminals and thieves and all forms of criminality as directed by the Chief PNP and ordered by PRO3 director Brog Gen. Matthew P. Baccay.
