Mabalacat lass shines at 2025 U Sports swim championships

Swimming sensation Kayla Noelle Sanchez, a proud daughter of Mabalacat, has made waves at the 2025 U SPORTS Swimming Championships held in Toronto, Canada, from March 6-8.

The 2019 MOKA Awardee for Sports has emerged as the “Swimmer of the Year”.

In her debut at these national championships representing the University of British Columbia (UBC), Kayla clinched an impressive 7 gold medals and shattered two U SPORTS national records. Her standout performances included winning individual GOLDs in the 100-meter freestyle and the 200-meter freestyle, while also setting new records in the 50-meter butterfly (25.85 seconds) and the 50-meter freestyle (24.18 seconds) in short course pools.

The rest of her gold medals came from team relay events, contributing to UBC’s overall success.

Mayor Crisostomo Cris Garbo has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Kayla for her outstanding achievements. He praised her achievements, saying, “Kayla’s success brings great pride to our city and serves as an inspiration to our youth.”

As a two-time Olympian, Sanchez is said to be focused on upcoming international swimming competitions, including the Asian Swimming Championships and the 2025 SEA Games. With her roots in Mabalacat, she continues to shine on the global stage, making her home city proud.
