VM Vicky: No room for complacency this election

Angeles City Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting

ANGELES CITY – Re-electionist Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting says she is leaving nothing to chance even if facing a virtual unknown opponent.

During the “Balitaan” media forum of Capampangan in Media, Inc. (CAMI), Vega-Cabigting said she cannot afford to be complacent in the on-going election season as she faces a relatively unfamiliar candidate in Dr. Pie Juan, a medical doctor and optometrist.

Asked on why she still needs to exert effort in the campaign, she said: “I don’t want to appear over confident and there is no room for complacency,” Vega-Cabigting told CAMI members.

“I try to do my work. I go about my usual duties as vice mayor,” she added.

She said while awaiting for the official start of the campaign period, she is “calibrating” her performance.

“I think the challenge lies in assessing what I have done as part of our performance. It is not really on the opponent,” she said.

Vega-Cabigting is in tandem with re-electionist mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin who are both seen to be facing token opponents in the upcoming May 9 elections.

She is eligible for two more terms, after winning with Mayor Pogi in 2019. She completed her first three full terms in 2007, 2010 and 2013.

As presiding officer of the City Council, she has been instrumental in the fight against COVID-19, with the approval of funds for medical and financial aid as well as food and relief packages and vaccination efforts of the Lazatin administration.

She has been advocating for various social concerns like livelihood, women empowerment, gender development, children’s protection and education.
