10,000 cops deployed to secure barangay polls

CAMP OLIVAS — Some 10,000 policemen were deployed across the region to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of security in the holding of barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections on October 30, 2023.

Police Regional Office 3 director Brigadier General Jose Hidalgo Jr. said that with just a few days left until the much-anticipated electoral event, the Philippine National Police in Central Luzon stands ready to guarantee a seamless and secure elections in the region.

The police general recently led the send-off ceremony along with the handover of resources and forces.

The ceremony took place at the PRO3 Parade Ground and attended by members of the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) as well as dedicated force multipliers. 

The said event was witnessed by different media representatives and other esteemed guests underlining the importance of the mission.

Part of the activity was the “Blessing of Troops” officiated by Reverend Father Lt. Col. Jonathan Chy, PRO3 Regional Pastoral Officer and the reading of “Statement of Commitment” of concerned agencies followed by the message of Atty. Temie P Lambino, director of Commission on Election in Central Luzon.

Hidalgo said to optimize deployment and bolster the security presence at polling precincts, police personnel typically assigned to desk duties and educational pursuits have been reassigned to polling stations. 

According to Hidalgo, the strategic move will significantly increase the number of individuals responsible for safeguarding the integrity and safety of the election day proceedings.
