1st on PH soil: Airbus Beluga touches down in Clark

On Thursday night, the Airbus Beluga touched down for the first time on Philippine soil, particularly at the Clark International Airport (CRK).

With flight No. 4Y-8008, the cargo plane — also known as the Airbus A300-608ST Super Transporter — set foot at CRK around 8:34 PM, all the way from Da Nang, Vietnam.

The Airbus Beluga, accordingly, is a unique cargo aircraft developed by Airbus to transport oversized aircraft components, such as wings and fuselage sections, between their production facilities across Europe.

The Beluga got its name due to its resemblance to the white whale species called Beluga, with its distinctive bulbous upper fuselage. The aircraft’s unique design allows it to carry large and bulky loads that would not fit into traditional cargo planes.
