CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Livelihood packages ranging from P5,000 to 8,000 were given by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to 9,516 entrepreneurs in Central Luzon via the Livelihood Seeding Program-Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (LSP-NSB) in 2021.
“These were in the form of goods, raw materials and equipment for businesses such as sari-sari store, bigasan, carinderia, food processing and non-food manufacturing,” DTI Regional Director Leonila Baluyut shared.
Aside from the kits, each beneficiary was also required to attend entrepreneurship and skills trainings.
“Business cliniquing was also done to ensure the progress of the business of the beneficiaries,” Baluyut furthered.
Aurora had the most number of beneficiaries with 8,198, followed by Pampanga with 278, Bulacan with 230, Zambales-229, Tarlac-201, Bataan-192, and Nueva Ecija-188.
LSP-NSB is a program of DTI that allows a wider reach of business development assistance by bringing government services closer to the people through partnerships with local government units (LGUs).
Through Barangay Development Councils, DTI helps in capacitating barangay personnel to provide basic business advisory or information dissemination services to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the locality.
“In addition, the DTI — in partnership with the national government agencies, LGUs, non-government organizations, the private sector, and through the Negosyo Centers — promote ease of doing business and provide access to development services for MSMEs through the Business Counselors in their areas of responsibility,” Baluyut explained.
DTI Central Luzon allocated about P50.115 million for the program in 2021.
Through LSP-NSB, many MSMEs affected by the economic downturn due to the pandemic recovered and restarted their businesses.
