5 foreigners among arrested in Tarlac plantation under probe

CAMP OLIVAS — PRO3 director Brig. Gen. Matthew P. Baccay on Monday reported that five foreigners are now under investigation after they were arrested last June 9 along with other individuals in Concepcion, Tarlac.

Baccay identified the five foreigners as American nationals Krystiana Swain, Emily Butler, Nishant Carr and Keidan Oguri, and Chilean national Cristopher Silva.

Baccay said they are now under probe after they were released from jail and told authorities they are researchers and not connected with some arrested persons in Bgy. Tinang, Concepcion, Tarlac.

The local police are now coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration to verify the real identities of the foreigners and for their possible deportation.

“The five foreigners were turned over to the Bureau of Immigration for immediate deportation and black listing,” Baccay said.

“We could not discount the possibility that they could be members or supporters of those who have been arrested even if they claim that they are researchers. The fact that they were there during the incident proved otherwise,” he added.

He said the 91 persons arrested in Tarlac including 12 farmers and 25 students were charged with illegal assembly and malicious mischief for destroying the sugar cane plantation.

Meanwhile, the four minors who were also with the them were released by the police.
