ANGELES CITY – Balibago Barangay Chief Rodelio “Tony” Mamac urged his constituents not to be “blinded” by the P500 allegedly being given to several voters in their village since the start of the campaign period for the upcoming elections.
Mamac, who is seeking a fresh mandate, said that the alleged vote-buying is being done in Barangay Amsic.
He didn’t disclose who is behind the activity, which is prohibited under the rules of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
Mamac is running only against former Angeles City Councilor Joseph “PG” Ponce.
“Our constituents were brought to Amsic and some of them do not know they would paid there,” Mamac said in an interview.
“We never resorted to vote-buying ever since we became leader of Balibago,” said Mamac, who has been the village chief since 2007.
Mamac expressed confidence that his constituents would be “wise voters just like in the past.”
“We always resorted to good governance and efficient delivery of services. I know they will choose this,” he added.
Mamac said Balibago has been top in several aspects, including crime prevention, child care and the handling of the “Lupon Tagamayapa.”
His battle cry is “gawin and tama (do what is right.)
Asked to describe his battle against Ponce, Mamac said “all battles are difficult and we should never be complacent.”
“But this is my ‘lightest’ fight compared to the previous elections,” he added.
