CCLEX shapes Cebu’s economic, tourism, urban transformation

The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), which opened in 2022, has helped shape Cebu’s future in terms of faster connectivity, economic growth and tourism development.

The 8.9-km CCLEx, operated by Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), has boosted business investments in Cordova and Mactan Island, specifically tourism and real estate.

The 4-lane expressway is not only open for 4-wheeled vehicles, but also for motorcycles, while a dedicated lane for bicycles has also been provided.

The iconic bridge, the tallest and longest by far in the country, allows faster access to the airport and tourist spots on Mactan Island.

It has helped ease traffic congestion in the metro by providing a new route to Mactan.

The CCLEX is being run under a public-private partnership (PPP). Local government units where the bridge is built receive 1% of the total gross generated by toll fees.

In terms of environmental conservation, CCLEx has taken some measures to preserve marine line in the area, particularly the mangroves at the Pilipog river crossing.

CCLEx, for motorists, is not only an iconic bridge that showcases the scenic view in the area, but is a symbol of Cebu’s ongoing transformation for further growth and development.
