The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) has been providing leadership training for young people through its “Be RICEponsible Leadership Camp”.
The camp is open to youth aged 10-15 and 16-18.
According to PhilRice science research specialist Lorelie Vee Domingo, the training aims to instill in young people the principles of leadership, with a broad awareness of the importance of agriculture.
Aside from learning about responsible leadership, participants also get to experience hands-on activities on the farm, such as planting rice, machine demonstrations, rice art sessions, and participating in discussions on rice science.
Each batch of the leadership camp consists of 20 participants. Recently, 20 student-leaders from Muñoz Science City participated in the Be RICEponsible Leadership Camp held at RICEsParK within the PhilRice compound.

One of the student participants, Jo Manglicmot, described RICEsParK as her favorite learning place. She said she not only learned to be RICEponsible but also how to be an effective leader.
Aside from learning about responsible leadership, the youth also learned about farm machine operation, the Minus-One-Element Technique, and creating rice mosaic art.
