CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), in partnership with SM City Pampanga, led the “Drop Your E-Waste” campaign in celebration of the Philippine Environment Month.

The initiative encouraged the collection of electronic waste (e-waste) from DENR employees and clients, promoting responsible waste disposal practices and environmental awareness.

This year’s Environment Month theme, “Ending Global Plastic Pollution,” emphasizes the broader goal of combating pollution by integrating responsible e-waste handling. It supports efforts to reduce toxic pollution by recovering valuable materials from electronic waste and upcycling plastic residues into useful products, thereby minimizing plastic and toxic waste in the environment.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo underscored the importance of public awareness and education on proper e-waste disposal, highlighting its environmental and health implications.

“Our initiatives for a cleaner and greener environment also encompass the protection of both human health and the ecosystem. Through this event, we aim to inspire behavioral and cultural change in the public’s approach to waste management,” Pablo said.

All collected e-waste will be processed and disposed of in accordance with Republic Act No. 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, and Republic Act No. 6969, or the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 1990.
