PASAY CITY – A Kapampangan lass from Bacolor town dominated the catwalk during the 9th Calgary International Fashion and Arts Week (CIFAW) held in the Philippines for the first time on July 26 to 27, showcasing the creations of renowned and veteran designers.

Around 70 models from Canada and the Philippines participated in the two-day event at the grand ballroom of the Marriott Manila located at Newport World Resorts, including young Kapampangan model Jodie Meagan Pavia, a college student at Holy Angel University.

The designs of eco-couture designer John Ablaza were among the highlights of the show. He was supported by international fashion designer Santi Guarin, also a Kapampangan from Mabalacat City, and international pageant and fashion show coordinator Jonathan Parnada.

The first CIFAW was held in Calgary, Canada, and was later staged in Edmonton and Winnipeg (Canada), followed by events in New York, USA, and Paris, France.

When asked why the event was held in the Philippines, Ablaza said, “It was Limuel and Alvin’s way of showing love for the Philippines — a homecoming to their beloved country, where they are rooted before finally settling down in Canada.”

He added, “It is also a fitting tribute to my homecoming show after spending two decades in the U.S. and Canada.”

Members of the diplomatic corps were spotted at the show, including Milder Cadet of the U.S. Embassy.
