CL police adopts energy-saving measures in support of gov’t fuel conservation drive

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) has started implementing energy-saving and fuel conservation measures in its offices across Central Luzon in support of the national government’s efforts to reduce electricity and fuel use amid rising global oil prices caused by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

This initiative aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for government agencies to adopt energy conservation practices, including the temporary implementation of a four-day workweek in some offices of the executive branch to minimize electricity use and reduce fuel consumption.

It forms part of the government’s response to the expected impact of higher global oil prices on the country’s economy and public resources.

Under the policy, government offices have been encouraged to cut electricity and fuel consumption and limit non-essential travel, while ensuring that essential services remain uninterrupted.

Emergency and frontline agencies such as the police continue normal operations to maintain public safety.

In support of the national directive and the guidance of Philippine National Police chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. to promote responsible resource management within the organization, PRO3 has begun enforcing practical energy-saving practices across its offices.

These include switching off non-essential lights and electrical equipment during lunch breaks and after office hours, setting air-conditioning units to 24 degrees Celsius, maximizing natural lighting and ventilation, and encouraging virtual meetings whenever practical.

The regional police office has also strengthened fuel conservation practices by limiting non-essential travel, consolidating official trips, avoiding unnecessary engine idling, and ensuring proper maintenance of government vehicles.

Police Regional Director PBGen. Jess Mendez said the initiative helps PRO3 manage government resources efficiently while continuing to deliver its mandate of maintaining peace and order in the region.

“These simple but practical steps help us manage resources responsibly while sustaining our operational readiness. Our personnel remain fully committed to protecting our communities while contributing to the government’s efforts to conserve energy and public resources,” Mendez said.

He assured the public that the measures will not disrupt police services, emphasizing that PRO3 personnel remain on duty around the clock to ensure public safety across Central Luzon.

The implementation of energy conservation practices within the police organization highlights how frontline government agencies support the broader national effort to use resources responsibly while sustaining essential public services during periods of global economic uncertainty.
