CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A total of 4,132 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) across the province received assistance through a joint initiative of the Provincial Government of Pampanga, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Nanay Partylist on Wednesday, November 20.

The program aims to recognize the critical contributions of these frontline community health and nutrition volunteers, who serve as essential partners in delivering grassroots healthcare and nutrition services.

Each beneficiary received ₱6,000 in financial assistance—₱4,000 from the DSWD and ₱2,000 from the Provincial Capitol—along with free maintenance medicines, undergarments, and food packs containing hotdogs and chicken.

Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda commended the BNS and BHW volunteers for their unwavering dedication, describing them as the “silent heroes of every barangay” who continue to serve despite limited resources. She emphasized that their daily acts of compassion create a lasting impact on communities across Pampanga.

“Salamat sa serbisyo ninyo. Wala man kayo masyadong financial na natatanggap sa trabaho ninyo, pero grabe naman ang nade-deposit ninyo sa itaas dahil sa kabutihan ninyo,” the governor said.

Among the recipients was Teresita Baclay, a 56-year-old Aeta volunteer who has served as a BHW for more than 20 years.

For her, the assistance provides not only personal relief but also an opportunity to further support those in need.

“Magsisilbi po ako hanggang malakas po ako. Nakakataba po ng puso kasi nakikita po ng gobyerno ang paghihirap po namin,” she shared.
