CLARK FREEPORT – A BPO service provider for an offshore gaming operation based in Pampanga was raided on Sunday for allegedly engaging in an illegal cryptocurrency investment scam which led to the arrest of a Chinese couple and 91 Chinese employees.
Police identified the suspects as spouses Richard and Connie Tan and their boss alias Mr. Wang, who escaped arrest in the raid. They are operators of Oasis Hub Inc. located at Building 7494, CM Recto Avenue, Clark Freeport Zone in Mabalacat City.
Operatives of the CIDG PFU Pampanga, CIDG RFU3, CIDG AFFCU, RACU3, Mabalacat City police and RMFB3 302nd Maneuver Company jointly implemented a warrant to search, seize and examine computer data of the company for violation of Section 26 or fraudulent transactions, specifically investment fraud under R.A. 8799 and Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 issued by Angeles City RTC Branch 56.
Police said some 126 Filipinos who are CSR agents of Oasis Hub Inc. voluntarily submitted themselves to testify against the management.
The raid stemmed from an information provided by the employees of the Oasis Hub Inc. that the company is into a fraudulent investment scheme that is “entirely different” from the job they applied for and the permit the company is authorized to conduct as a POGO.
The onsite-forensic examination of the raiding team revealed the company is engaged in fraudulent cryptocurrency investment by employing Filipinas who create fake social media accounts and use stolen pictures of models or beautiful women who have accounts in Facebook or Instagram. They enter dating apps where they search for prospective investors. These women portray themselves as wealthy models to entice their victims that they made a fortune through crypto currency investment and lure them into investing in a platform being handled and manipulated by the Chinese nationals who are employees of Oasis Hub Inc.
Upon examination of the desktop computers of the suspects, authorities found the name of the platform, website, and the ledger where the invested cryptocurrency can be viewed.
Authorities also found out the ledgers are linked to the accounts of Chinese nationals who are managers in Oasis Hub Inc., establishing the motive to defraud another for the material gain of the company.
The raiding team seized 159 units of desktop computers, seven laptops and 554 units of cellular phones and voluminous documents.
