CIDG seizes ₱5M in illicit foam, mattress in Pampanga raid; 2 Chinese arrested

Authorities have confiscated 1,956 pieces of assorted foam and mattresses valued at ₱5,051,130, while two suspects were arrested, during a raid conducted at a warehouse in Barangay Sta. Maria in Minalin town.

The raid was conducted by the CIDG Regional Field Unit 3 – Special Operation Team, CIDG Pampanga Provincial Field Unit, together with representatives from Department of Trade Industry (DTI), by virtue of a Search Warrant for violation of Republic Act No. 7394 (Consumer Act of the Philippines).

CIDG Director PMGEN Robert AA Morico II identified the arrested suspects as “Shao”, owner of the warehouse, and “Lin”, manager, both Chinese and of legal age. They were caught while selling and trading foam and mattresses which are not compliant to the minimum labeling requirements and standards for consumer products as prescribed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Director Morico emphasized that the State protects the interests of the consumers, promotes their general welfare, and establishes standards of conduct for business and industry.

The CIDG’s intensified law enforcement operations nationwide is in compliance with the focused program thrust of the Chief of the Philippine National Police, Police General Jose Melencio C Nartatez Jr.

The CIDG leadership lauded PCOL Grant A Gollod, Chief of CIDG Regional Field Unit 3 and the CIDG Pampanga Provincial Field Unit led by Provincial Officer, PLTCOL Marlon M Cudal for busting the trading and business of the consumer products which fell short from the requirement of the law. The accomplishment underscores the CIDG’s commitment in fighting all illegal trading and activities across the country.

The CIDG assures the public that it is steadfast in enforcing all the laws to protect all consumers and general public; and unyielding to all violators. The Group calls on the public to be vigilant in buying consumer products and report to CIDG all suspicious and illegal activities in their localities.
