Cong Pogi joins Brigada in Mabalacat, Magalang

FIRST DISTRICT – With less than a month before he assumes office, Pampanga First District Representative-Elect and outgoing Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. joined the nationwide Brigada Eskwela 2025 in Mabalacat City and Magalang Town on June 9.

A total of 58 public schools in Mabalacat City and 58 public schools in Magalang town will receive 580 sacks of cement, 116 liters of paint, and 232 paint brushes each, personally donated by Lazatin out of his own pocket.

This has been a yearly tradition of Lazatin since he first became a Councilor in Angeles City in 2013.

It can be recalled that Lazatin also participated in the Brigada Eskwela 2024 in Mabalacat City and Magalang town on July 23 and 24 last year.

In September 2024, Lazatin also personally donated school supplies to daycare students in Mabalacat City and Magalang Town.

Each of the students received a tote bag with a set of school supplies, including crayons, notebooks, pencil, eraser, sharpener, and writing pad. The parents of each day care student also received five kilos of rice.

Lazatin has always advocated for education. As Angeles City Mayor, he spearheaded the repair of daycare centers in Angeles City, amounting to P5 million; the construction of additional classrooms, offices, laboratories, and canteen at the City College of Angeles (CCA), amounting to P259 million; and the construction of the P50-million New Annex Building of the CCA, funded by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

Under the Lazatin administration, 58,000 tablets were distributed to public students in Angeles City from Grades 4 to 12; 3,200 tablets were distributed to public school teachers; and 3,200 tablets were distributed to students of CCA

Lazatin, who first announced his intent to run as Representative for the Pampanga First District on June 28, 2024, has been proclaimed as Representative-Elect of the First District of Pampanga on May 13, 2025, following a historic win where he garnered a total of 262,517 votes – the first Representative of the Pampanga First District to do so.

Lazatin recorded 88,707 votes in Mabalacat City and 51,379 votes in the Municipality of Magalang.

Meanwhile, in his home city of Angeles, Lazatin garnered a total of 122,431 votes, breaking his own record set in the Mayoralty elections of 2022 where he accumulated more than 112,000 votes — also the first for any Angeles City Mayor.

Lazatin ran unopposed for the said position.

“Ginulis tamu pu keng kasaysayan uli na pu ning kekayung alang patugut a suporta. Dacal a dacal pung salamat. Puryan taya pu ing Guinu,” Lazatin said of his win.

As part of his legislative agenda as Pampanga First District Representative, Lazatin vows to file measures that will increase funds for the maintenance of classrooms in public schools and increase the salaries of public school teachers with an additional P20,000 across the board.
