Converge advances safer internet with anti-scam seminar for teachers, school workers

Supports opening of classes thru Brigada Eskwela

More than 20 employee volunteers from Converge came together for Brigada Eskwela at Anunas Elementary School in Angeles City ahead of the opening of classes this June.

Leading fiber broadband and technology provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating a positive impact in the community, this time by supporting both students and teachers ahead of the new school year opening this June.

On June 13, Converge returned to Anunas Elementary School in Angeles, Pampanga, to take part in Brigada Eskwela. More than 20 employee volunteers came together to clean classrooms, repair chairs, and provide essential cleaning supplies to help prepare a safe and welcoming learning environment for students.

Volunteers lend hands to clean classrooms, repair chairs, and donate essential cleaning supplies to prepare a safe and welcoming learning environment for students.

Beyond the school facilities, Converge also prepared the teachers and the school staff against online fraud and other cyber crimes like phishing, love scams, identity theft, and various online shopping and social media scams in partnership with multisectoral advocacy group ScamWatch Pilipinas.

ScamWatch Pilipinas co-convenor Jocel De Guzman shared practical tips on how to spot and prevent online scams, supporting the school community in staying safe in an increasingly digital world.

Converge also advanced its advocacy for online safety by inviting ScamWatch Pilipinas to conduct an anti-scam seminar for the school’s teaching and non-teaching force. In photo is ScamWatch Pilipinas co-convenor Jocel De Guzman.

“One way we can empower the education sector is by joining the annual Brigada Eskwela, where we lend our time, presence, and malasakit,” said Converge VP and Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations Jay-Anne Encarnado.

“Beyond that, we also support teachers by equipping them with tools to stay safe online – an advocacy that’s close to our heart as a technology company. We stand with the education community as they prepare for the opening of classes, and we remain committed to helping shape a future that’s safer, more informed, and better connected,” she added.

Meanwhile, Angeles City Schools Division Senior Education Program Specialist Anna Marie Carmen Romero emphasized the value of community partnerships in education, demonstrated through the effort.

“Brigada Eskwela is incredibly important because schools can’t meet all their needs alone. That’s why partnerships matter. Volunteerism and bayanihan bring communities and partners together to prepare our classrooms before we officially open the school year.”

Likewise, Anunas Elementary School Principal Victoria G. Torres expressed gratitude for the continued support of the company. “We’re truly blessed to have Converge visit our school again. They kept their promise to return for Brigada Eskwela. Our entire teaching and non-teaching staff had the chance to learn from them, not just for professional growth, but also in ways that help us in our personal lives and even within our families.”

This was the second time Converge engaged with Anunas Elementary School, coming from its Project PIGLET (Privacy Integration through Guided Learning of Emerging Technologies) tie-up last February to facilitate age-appropriate discussions on digital literacy and responsible online behavior.

Anunas Elementary School serves over 3,000 students through a three-shift daily schedule, making strong community support all the more vital.

One of the key pillars of the sustainability commitments of Converge is to create positive community impact. The firm empowers communities with initiatives that aim to bridge the digital divide and provide access to reliable, world-class fiber internet services.

Additionally, Converge is contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which focuses on Quality Education, and SDG 1, which aims to eliminate Poverty.
