CLARK FREEPORT — The Clark International Airport (CRK) conducted its first full-scale security exercise recently, simulating an aircraft hijacking scenario to test emergency response capabilities and inter-agency coordination.

The exercise was carried out in partnership with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGroup) and involved a controlled drill designed to assess and enhance existing security and crisis management protocols.

Members of the PNP AVSEGroup, including its Special Operations Unit, demonstrated negotiation procedures and tactical assault operations aimed at resolving the simulated threat while prioritizing the preservation of life and protection of human rights.
Office of Transportation Security Administrator Undersecretary Gilberto DC Cruz cited the strong coordination among airport authorities, law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and aviation security teams during the exercise. He described the tactical assault component as “one of the most precise SOU executions” he has witnessed.

Cruz said the drill underscores the importance of preparedness and forms part of broader security measures in line with the country’s hosting of upcoming ASEAN-related engagements in Clark.
Luzon International Premiere Airport Development Corp. (LIPAD) President and Chief Executive Officer Noel Manankil said the exercise reinforces the airport operator’s commitment to passenger safety.

“Through these exercises, we strengthen our capabilities, identify areas for improvement, and ensure readiness in responding to any crisis,” Manankil said.
The simulation involved coordinated participation from airport security personnel, local law enforcement, and emergency medical services.
Airport authorities reported that regular flight operations and terminal services continued as scheduled, with no disruption to passengers during the exercise.
