BALER, Aurora — In a bid to accelerate digital transformation in government services, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) conducted an orientation on digital signatures for provincial government employees.

About 90 personnel from the provincial government of Aurora participated in the session, which introduced the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI)—a system that enables secure and paperless transactions through electronic signatures.

DICT Aurora Planning Assistant Rodolfo Marzan Jr. said digital signatures help streamline government transactions by eliminating repetitive manual processes.

“Digital signatures significantly improve workflow efficiency by removing time-consuming steps such as printing, scanning, and mailing documents,” he said.

The PNPKI system issues digital certificates that verify a user’s identity and ensure the authenticity of every transaction.

These certificates are valid for two years and must be renewed to maintain access.

“Because of this technology, government workers can sign batches of documents electronically in just seconds,” Marzan added.

He also emphasized that PNPKI enhances accountability by securing the integrity of official documents through encryption and a verifiable digital trail.

“Digital signatures not only boost productivity but also reinforce data protection and authenticity,” he said.

This initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive for all government offices to digitalize vital services, reflecting the administration’s broader push to modernize governance through secure and efficient digital tools that build public trust and streamline operations.

By empowering local institutions like the Aurora provincial government with advanced digital systems, the DICT aims to build a more responsive, transparent, and technology-driven bureaucracy that meets the evolving needs of citizens.
