DOTr hurdles big right-of-way, happy with team handling acquisition issues

With the right people for the job, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is getting past nagging right-of-way problems for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).

In an interview on One News, DOTr Sec. Vince Dizon said the agency has settled four of five ROW issues for the 33-kilometer MMSP.

While leading talks with various LGUs and even private entities, Dizon cited DOTr”s team that has hurdled ROW concerns.

The ROW Site Acquisition (ROWSA) is led by IC Calaguas, Assistant Secretary for Railways.

In the interview, Dizon said that the ROWSA has been getting the job done and is happy at the pace it has been moving.

“We’re very happy with her and her team and she was actually instrumental in getting the four issues of the right of way for Subway resolved, in just four months,” he said.

A check with DOTr showed that the agency has resolved ROW issues that incude the Varilla property in Valenzuela, the Payanig sa Pasig, the Metrowalk and Blackeack in Ortigas, and the White Plains village.

The MMSP will run from Valenzuela City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City. Once operational, it will cut travel time between the two cities to 40 minutes from the current 2.5 hours.
