CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a 197-lineal-meter flood control structure in Sasmuan, Pampanga, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the province’s resilience to climate-induced disasters.

DPWH Pampanga 2nd District Engineer Gregorio Audea Jr. said the ₱29.4-million infrastructure project in Barangay Santa Monica is expected to significantly reduce flooding in the area and help protect surrounding communities and the local environment.

“This project not only reduces flood risks but also reflects our commitment to resilient and sustainable infrastructure that supports long-term community safety and development,” Audea said.

He also lauded the project team for completing the structure on schedule, highlighting its alignment with the district office’s broader Flood Management Program, which aims to strengthen infrastructure preparedness amid intensifying weather disturbances caused by climate change.

The initiative also supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call in his 2024 State of the Nation Address to strengthen disaster resilience and expand infrastructure that protects communities from natural calamities under the Bagong Pilipinas governance agenda.

By delivering timely and effective flood control measures, the DPWH continues to fulfill its role in building a safer, more climate-resilient future for all Filipinos.
