TARLAC CITY – The concreting of an 880.00-linear meter sugarcane farm-to-mill road in barangay San Martin in Concepcion, Tarlac has been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“We at the DPWH Tarlac 2nd District Engineering Office are aware that we can help in improving the productivity of our sugarcane farmers by providing them infrastructure support like the upgrading of existing farm-to-mill roads,” District Engineer Hermon Ines said.
The project involves concreting a two-lane road with a width of 5.50 meters and thickness of 0.30 meters.
Funded under the DPWH-Department of Agriculture convergence program, the road concreting project began on September 20, 2021 and was completed on November 20, 2021.
“Local residents and farmers now have a safe, convenient, and reliable access to work and other destinations and we know that they are always at risk when traveling on unpaved roads especially during rainy season. Now, we expect that any hazards posed by the once muddy and unpaved road will be lessened,” Ines added.
Construction of sugarcane FMRs is mandated by Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2015 and its implementation is in coordination with Sugar Regulatory Administration.
