Filipina rower still has good chances to advance in Paris Olympics

Gregorio with Delgaco sharing light moments on the sidelines of Paris Olympics

Despite failing to finish in the top three in the early heat, Filipina rower Joanie Delgaco still has a chance to advance to the finals in women’s single sculls in the Paris Olympics.

Philippine Rowing Association president Pato Gregorio, in a text message to PNN, said that Delgaco still “has a good chance”, keeping hopes alive for a medal finish.

The very first Filipino to qualify in Olympic rowing, Delgaco may still make it to the Finals via the repêchage on Sunday where the top two advance.

“But that will depend who she is gonna go against,” Gregorio added.

Delgaco almost made it to an outright quarterfinals berth had she finished in top 3 of the early heats. Gregorio said she lost steam in the remaining 800 meters, landing fourth with 7 minutes and 56.26 seconds.

Delgaco opened the 25-athlete Team Philippines bid for medals in the Paris olympiad where boxers Nesty Petecio and Carlo Paalam and gymnast Carlo Yulo are our better chances for Olympic medals.
