MABALACAT CITY — A supporter of Mayor Crisostomo Garbo has publicly denounced what he describes as a new wave of black propaganda orchestrated by his political opponents.
In a statement, former head of the Mabalacat City Traffic Enforcement Group (MCTEG), Ralph ‘Basti’ David, asserted that the mayor’s rivals are resorting to dirty tactics in a desperate attempt to tarnish his good reputation.
David emphasized that these attempts come as a reaction to Garbo’s enduring popularity among the constituents of Mabalacat City.
“They are panicking because they’ve already invested a lot in their schemes,” he remarked, referencing the recent filing of complaints against Garbo with the Ombudsman. “They thought this would be enough to suspend the mayor, but they are left empty-handed.”
Adding to the controversy, David revealed that the mayor’s foes have collaborated with an unpopular publication that has a history of questionable journalism.
“It’s no surprise that they would release such a tasteless story to criticize the mayor,” he said, pointing out that the founder of this publication had previously run against Garbo in the last election, only to suffer an embarrassing landslide defeat. He also pointed that the byline of the one-sided article is primarily known as a photographer and has no reputation as a writer.
“He must be getting help from his minions who thrive in making black propaganda. They mark this season of politics. Fortunately, the Mabalaqueños know the truth, even San Pedro won’t deny the fact,” he furthered.
According to David, the opposition has also tried to manipulate the Sangguniang Panlalawigan by using a “dummy” to file complaints, indicating a coordinated effort to undermine Garbo’s administration.
“They thought they can control the narrative, but the people see through their tactics,” he added.
The allegations come amid a political climate as the mayor gears up for his third term in the upcoming 2025 elections. David is urging Mabalaqueños to remain vigilant against misinformation and disinformation.
