CLARK FREEPORT— A world-class intermodal transportation terminal will soon rise inside this Freeport, as groundbreaking for its construction was held here on Oct. 28.

Leading the ceremonies were Clark Development Chairman Edgardo D. Pamintuan and representatives of Premiere Clark Complex Inc. (PCCI), a subsidiary of SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPH).

Pamintuan expressed elation over the development of the said facility, citing that the structure will make Clark “the transportation hub in Central Luzon.”

PCCI committed some P2 billion in investment for the terminal’s development.  It will be a four-storey structure which features some ancillary facilities such as waiting areas, restrooms, and other services.  It will also create 1,000 direct employment opportunities and some 800 job vacancies during the course of its construction.

Aside from Pamintuan, also present during the groundbreaking rites are CDC Chief-of-Staff and Vice President for Engineering Services Group (ESG) Dennis C. Legaspi, SM Supermalls Vice President Bien Mateo, SM Assistant Vice President for North Luzon Junias Eusebio, SM Supermalls Regional Operations Manager North IV Andrea Madlangbayan, and SM City Clark Mall Manager Jerwin Jalandoni.

Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin, Jr., Angeles City Councilor JC Parker, Mabalacat City Vice Mayor Gerald Guttrie Aquino, and Clark Global City (CGC) President Freddie Placino were also present at the event.

For his part, Mateo said that the transport terminal will complement other government infrastructure projects under the “Build Build Build” program.

“This new structure will accommodate upcoming demands brought about by the government’s ‘Build Build Build’ project in the region such as the Clark PNR, Clark International Airport expansion, and New Clark City among others,” he added.

The intermodal transport terminal is envisioned to improve the efficiency of public transportation in the Freeport. It will provide a sufficient number of departure bays for Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), shuttle services, taxis and other modes of land transportation.

It can be recalled that the CDC and SMPH signed the lease agreement for the project last June of this year. The agreement was signed by CDC President and CEO Manuel R. Gaerlan and SM Prime President Jeffrey Lim.
