Lubao now COVID-free

LUBAO, Pampanga – This town has finally achieved a COVID-free status, after its last remaining active case tested negative from the dreaded disease today, December 20.

For more than three weeks now, the town registered zero daily new cases of COVID-19 and the number of active infection continuously declined.

The last COVID-19 victim remained in the hospital for weeks due to pre-existing health condition, forcing him to linger for a while on the active cases column until coming out negative in the most recent RT-PCR test.

Day-to-day active cases here was highest at 148 on April 27, 2021 and total confirmed infection via RT-PCR test reached 2,650 with 193 deaths.

A total of 2,450 infected individuals have recovered from COVID, reports said.

Mayor Esmie G. Pineda was elated after receiving this latest development, saying that the “concerted efforts of government agencies and the general public to ward off COVID paid off.”

Since the start of the pandemic, Pineda ordered the strict implementation of minimum public health protocols and intensified vaccination campaign and administration.

Vaccination in the past days focused on those belonging to the 12- 17 age group and booster shots for medical frontliners, senior citizens and persons with health comorbidities.

“We can already see the good effects of the vaccination and our continued adherence to health protocols. But, even with a zero-active case status, we should not lower our guards. Let’s remain to be vigilant and must not allow COVID-19 to break into our boundaries again,” Pineda said.
