Former Mabalacat City College President Michelle Aguilar Ong has been appointed as the newest commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education, a national position that governs colleges and universities in the country.
Ong was replaced in July this year as head of MCC, the only community college that has been mentioned by a Philippine president in a State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Recognized for bagging a prestigious The Times Higher Education, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. in his 2024 SONA cited the MCC for its Digital/Technological Innovation of the Year.
She was also a Fulbright scholar for advanced research at Florida State University.
Aside from occupying various positions in government and the private sector, she was also the Executive Director of the Nayong Pilipino.
Under Ong’s leadership, the MCC has been conferred with various awards and recognitions as well as partnerships with notable institutions in both government and the private sector.
