Mayor Lazatin to ACPO: Probe drowning of girl in Abacan

Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has directed the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) and the Council on Children’s Protection to conduct an investigation into the drowning of a 7-year-old child at the Abacan River on Saturday afternoon.

The ACPO led by Col. Amado Mendoza said the victim, Crystal Joy C. Montano, 7, of 178 Bilirian St., Visayas, Arian, went swimming along the Abacan River in Angeles City unsupervised.

The victim was playing with her friends when she took a dip in the river and drowned, according to the victim’s father, Philip P. Montano.

Mayor Lazatin has also instructed the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to immediately provide assistance to the bereaved family.

Mayor Lazatin has warned residents particularly those living near the Abacan River to refrain from swimming in the tributary for their own safety.

Both sides of the Abacan River had been developed as secondary routes in and out of Angeles City to contain the traffic during rush hours.
