Mica throws hat in congressional race

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Incumbent 3rd District Board Member Mica filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) on Tuesday, Oct. 1 for 3rd district representative.

She was accompanied by supporters and her family led by Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales. She first filed her COC at the Benigno Aquino Hall in the City of San Fernando before accompanying her brother at the Commission on Elections Office in San Fernando.

The congressional aspirant said that she is focused on continuing her father’s legislative and service legacy in the third district.

Gonzales said that she will look into more programs and policies that can help her district.

She said she will pursue legislative programs in health and education since these are the main areas from which she was immersed by her father in public service.

She added that she will be bringing to the legislative culture of the House of Representatives her experience in legislative work in the Province of Pampanga.

Gonzales, 30, hopes to replace her father’s seat as Pampanga’s Third District representative after the latter is set to finish his full three consecutive terms in office.

Mica was born and raised in the City of San Fernando, where she spent her early elementary school years.

In 2008, she moved to the United States to complete her secondary education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Returning to the Philippines, she took up Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, majoring in Management at the University of Asia and the Pacific.

She joined the corporate world as an intern in Rockwell Land Corporation’s human resource department in 2014; intern at Abbott Laboratories’ marketing department in 2015; and as management trainee at the Shopping Center Management Corporation until 2016.

In June 2018, she enrolled at the Ateneo Law School but took a leave of absence after just one semester to focus more on her work as corporate treasurer and chief financial officer of their family-owned AD Gonzales, Jr. Construction and Trading Co. Inc., an AAA-category construction firm.
