MANILA — After much guessing by excited PBA fans, Converge ICT Solutions Inc. finally launched today its official PBA team name — the Converge FiberXers — following the company’s much anticipated entry into Asia’s pioneering professional basketball league.
The Converge team moniker is patterned after the company’s brand archetype, the FiberX, which proved itself as a revolutionary addition in the internet landscape in the Philippines.
Just as Converge raised the standards in internet service with FiberX, the company also aims to position FiberXers in the PBA as a dynamic team that will excite the basketball community with a winning mindset.
“Converge is ready to take on this new challenge in an arena where passion fuels the competition. We recognize that basketball flows in the fiber of every Filipino, and we look forward to building a fanbase which inspires dedication and commitment to the sport,” said Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy.
The Filipinos’ deep connection with basketball is what spurred Converge to enter the PBA arena. Acquiring a very competitive team like the Alaska Aces strengthens the company’s resolve to give the Filipinos the best that they deserve, as it did by expanding the pure fiber internet connection nationwide.
“This is a strategic and timely move for Converge as we continue with our nationwide expansion. With Filipinos’ deep devotion to basketball, we’re confident that our foray into basketball will propel Converge to become a household name.” added Uy.
Converge FiberXers aims to promote a winning culture, as it takes advantage of the legacy built by the Alaska Aces in nearly four decades. It is the vision of Converge for the FiberXers to be an all-out competitor that inspires its community to give their all every time.
“A lot of the corporate values of Converge can be brought to life on a sporting stage and nothing is bigger than basketball here in our country,” Uy said. ”I look at the PBA not solely as a brand building vehicle. This will also be our way of giving back to our community of customers and basketball fans.”
Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) announced the official retirement of Alaska Aces from the PBA in February, after 35 seasons with 14 titles and a grand slam. But their legacy will live on, as Converge takes over the storied franchise and aims to bring it to greater heights.
Former PBA Commissioner Chito Salud will serve as the Converge representative to the PBA’s Board of Governors. Salud has earlier confirmed that Converge will retain Jeff Cariaso as the team’s head coach.
“First order of the day is to revitalize this franchise. The task before us is to form a dynamic and exciting team that can compete at the highest level. The goal is to build a winning legacy worthy of the winning brand we represent,” Salud said.
Converge FiberXers will start competing in PBA Season 47 in June.
