Park Inn by Radisson North Edsa launches basic housekeeping skills training for female PDLs

In line with its commitment to responsible business, Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA launched recently a long-term initiative to provide Basic Housekeeping Skills Training for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory.

The program is strongly aligned with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte’s “No Woman Left Behind” program, which seeks to empower women and provide them with the skills needed to rebuild their lives.

The program stems from a meaningful visit to the facility in November 2023, during which Park Inn by Radisson donated pillows that were repurposed as toy stuffing. Inspired by this experience, the hotel developed a sustainable initiative to offer practical training in housekeeping, giving the women the tools to seek employment and reintegrate into society.

In partnership with the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, which provided the global Housekeeping Curriculum, Park Inn by Radisson ensures that the training adheres to international hospitality standards.

To support the hands-on learning approach, a Park Inn Standard Room was constructed within the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory, allowing the trainees to practice and apply the skills they learn in a real-life setting. The Quezon City Skills and Livelihood Foundation, through a TESDA-certified trainer, will conduct the training.

The initiative, accordingly, not only empowers the PDLs with valuable skills but also recognizes their potential for personal growth. As social justice advocate Angela Davis once said, “Women in prison are often invisible to society, but they are human beings with families, stories, and dreams.”

With the collaboration, Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA and its partners with the full support of the owning company SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. aim to create lasting, positive change for PDLs, giving them the tools to build better futures for themseives and their families.
