PPC 2nd golf tourney a success, thanks sponsors for support

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Golfers and sponsors helped the Pampanga Press Club in raising the seed funds for the establishment of the PPC Journalism Institute (PPC-JI).

The club recently concluded its 2nd Invitational Golf Tournament at the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao town, with the end in view of raising funds for the PPC-JI.

Leading the tee-off ceremony were Ret. Gen. Henry Sabarre, Vice President for Security of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA); Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark (BOC) District Collector Jairus Reyes; and Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) Director Victor Manuel.

Winners of the tournament are: Lowest Gross – Mike Mangio, representing Lakeshore; Lowest Net – Jericho Manuel; Class A Champion – Rey Lapid; Class A First Runner-up – Willie Cuaresma; Class B Champion – Jun Engracia; Class B Runner-up Rainier Ronda; Class C Champion – Joshua Miguel; Class C Runner-up Randy Caluag; and Ladies Division Champion – Lorna Regala.

The PPC expressed gratitude to private companies, government corporations, public officials and individuals who committed support to the sports event in appreciation of the 75-year-old club’s project.

The PPC-JI aims to provide a solid learning for interested youth who can be trained by seasoned and award-winning journalists.

“While we are not against artificial intelligence, we need to be cautious as it can be either misused or abused in writing. The PPC sees the need to teach the younger generation on the practice of fair, accurate and truthful reporting using their own writing prowess and wits as aided by media professionals. Through the institute, young journalists will also get a deeper understanding of the role of media in the society,” PPC president Noel Tulabut said.

Tonette Orejas, PPC chairwoman, said the creation of the institute needs the widest support from the communities.

“The challenges and development of Pampanga need generations of responsible news media practitioners,” Orejas said.

Lincoln Baluyut, publisher of The Voice Newsweekly and twice past PPC president, chaired the golf project.

The sponsors of the events were Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda, Sen. Win Gatchalian, Beautéderm, Laus Group of Companies, Pagcor, Tarlac 2nd District congressional aspirant Vic Yap, Converge, EcoProtect, Landco, Vice Gov.
