CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) Press Club has condemned in strongest terms the murder of one of its former members who was shot to death while manning his store in Calbayog City in Samar late afternoon last Wednesday (Dec. 8).
Initial police investigation showed that Jesus “Jess” Malabanan, 58, a correspondent of Manila Standard Today and Reuters in Pampanga, was in his store with his wife watching television at around 6 pm when a still unidentified person shot him in the head, resulting to his instant death.
It was learned that Malabanan and his wife just came back to Calbayog City from Pampanga on that fateful day to check on their store in Tinambacan District and stay there for several days.
“The PRO3 Press Club condemns in the strongest possible terms the cowardly murder of Jess Malabanan who covered Camp Olivas for different publications for more than two decades. We are appealing to the Philippine National Police to bring to justice the person or persons responsible for his untimely demise,” the media group said in a statement.
