Life begins at 40. So they say.
But with Savers Group now 40 years, it has begun so many lives.
Lives it has started to build — career life, family life, professional life. Lives it has changed (or altered) too as it offered many opportunities — livelihood, advancement, career, business growth.
Comes to mind now the likes of Rhea Anicoche-Tan who once worked as marketing officer for Jack Uy. Just like Jack himself, Rhea now has her own multi-billion beauty product company Beautedern which is endorsed by many celebrities.
I can also think of stellar cast who, at one time or another, worked at Savers. Dr. Frankie Villanueva who is now president of Angeles City College and president of Clark Investors and Locators Association, media colleagues Arlyn Lukban and Sonnie Canlas, to name a few.
From what i recall to be its humble start — Jack’s Video World — is now almost an empire. From its flagship company of appliances, it is now a diversified business enterprise with hotel (Best Western Metro Clark Plus) restaurants (Namari, Cactus Jack, Spencers) and industrial equipment dealership. From a handful of workers including Jack and Dennis who manned the video shop (I should know as I rented directly from them as store attendants) in the early 80s, now it employs more than 800.
Jack (or J1 to some) almost wields a Midas touch. The Savers Appliances has really grown big not just in Angeles City but in the whole of Central Luzon and parts of Metro Manila. Jack is also a silent hand, mover and backstop to younger brother Dennis Anthony and the country’s pure end-to-end and fastest growing fiber provider Converge.
He is an inspiration to his siblings and to so many lives he has touched and influenced. His wife Shirley — ever supportive. His sons Justin and Jansen have followed his footsteps, manifesting strong and motivational leadership not just in the company but also in the family.
Congratulations Boss Jack, Mam Shirley, children and the whole of Savers family.
