ANGELES CITY – A self-taught artist who has explored and produced manual and digital art forms will be holding a solo art exhibit at Galeria Olivia, Camalig in this city.
Dodjie Arellano Aguinaldo may have been born in Baguio City and is a pure-blooded Ilocano, but he has considered Pampanga his home, raising his own family in Mabalacat City.
His love of art started at an early age. While studying college, he worked in a newspaper and comics production outfit as a layout artist and illustrator. In the 1990s, he worked as a senior artist, supervising artworks for a publishing company and an animation studio in Metro Manila before moving to Clark as a graphic artist.
He eventually ventured into digital video editing, having worked at two national television networks for almost 15 years as master editor and video graphics producer.
But by 2017, he went back to his first love – painting. While producing several art pieces, he also served as consultant for TV and radio production for CDC. He is now the graphic artist/ editor of Mabalacat City College.
Dodjie nurtured his love for Kapampangan arts and culture with his knowledge of Kulitan writings. He continues to study deeper language, tradition, history and legends of Pampanga.
He has joined various artist groups and their exhibits and gatherings, both to learn and to share learnings.
Also known as “Agui Naldo”, he is the co-founder of Kalalangang Mabalacat known as Sining Mabalacat which has produced various murals, installation arts and exhibits since the founding of the city, foremost of which are big events like the annual Caragan Festival and Miss Mabalacat pageants.
He imparts his own knowledge by serving as adviser to Sibul ning Kalalangan Mabalacat Youth Art Community.
Dodjie is one of the rare artists who has created both digital and manual forms and production of unique contemporary artworks.
