Sen. Imee on declaring Pampanga as PH Culinary Capital: ‘Dapat lang’

CLARK – Senator Imee Marcos said she has filed a counterpart bill in the Senate which seeks to declare Pampanga as the culinary capital of the Philippines.

“Karapat-dapat lamang,” she told mediamen at the sidelines of the Island Cluster Conference of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) held at the Royce Hotel on Aug. 21, where she served as Guest of Honor and Speaker.

“…Lahat kami dumadayo dito para lang kumain. At kilala naman, tanyag naman sa buong mundo ang ating probinsya sa masarap na pagkain at kakaibang lutuin, at talagang malikhain ang mga Kapampangan, ang ating kabalen. Pag pagkain, iba talaga,” she said.

Sen. Marcos made the statement in answering what the country should focus on in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Kailangan unahin ang pagkain,” she said. “Para sa akin, nutrisyon ang pinakamahalaga… Yung education, yung health.”

House Bill No. 10634, authored by Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, aims to declare Pampanga as the culinary capital of the Philippines.

Introduced in March 2024, it recently passed third and final reading in Congress.

The expected growth of the province’s food tourism will benefit farmers, fishermen and livestock producers, especially restaurants and carinderias.
