CLARK FREEPORT ZONE — The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) convened farmers, farm owners, and tilapia stakeholders across the country for a series of activities to support the prevention and control of Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV).
The convention is part of an ongoing project in Central Luzon and CALABARZON, which primarily aims to reduce the potential negative impacts of TiLV through effective biosecurity governance.
It features activities including surveillance data analysis and writeshop; farmer feedback workshop; and technical seminar on tilapia health.
BFAR Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz said this is a good avenue where stakeholders can participate and engage in intensive exchange of information and generation of knowledge on good and effective aquaculture biosecurity and aquatic health management practices.
“We [FAO and BFAR] hope that through these series of events, important information and significant knowledge will be gained from these core activities,” he said.
“This will contribute in the formulation and undertaking of actions to effectively manage TiLV and benefit the tilapia industry in the Philippines,” Cruz added. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
