Suspected robber killed, another hurt in encounter with AC cops

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A suspected member of a robbery group was killed while another was seriously wounded when they tried to shoot it out with policemen in front of a hotel in Barangay Anunas, Angeles City late Tuesday (February 18, 2025) afternoon.

Colonel Joselito E. Villarosa Jr., Angeles City Police Office director, said the suspects were riding on a black motorcycle (Yamaha Aerox) with no plate number when they were spotted by a team of policemen from the City Intelligence Unit and Police Station 4 roaming the “hotspots” of Korean Town, a place in Angeles City where a number of snatching incidents have occurred in the past few weeks.

Villarosa said a team of policemen were immediately dispatched to Korean Town after receiving information from the Angeles City Command Center that two suspicious individuals on a board a motorcycle were roaming the said area.

Acting swiftly, police operatives flagged down the suspects. However, instead of stopping, the back-rider pulled out a gun and tried to shoot the cops but his firearm malfunctioned. In this instance, the operatives retaliated, killing the driver and injuring the back-rider.

Police identified the injured suspect as a certain “Alex” of Magalang, Pampanga. On the other hand, investigators are still verifying the identity of the slain suspect, including their relationship with other criminal groups in the city and nearby areas.

Members of the PNP’s Scene of the Crime Operative (SOCO) arrived at the crime scene and recovered a US Colt .45 caliber pistol with a partially defaced serial number, a magazine loaded with six live rounds of ammunition, a chamber-loaded live round and a fired bullet of the gun.

Brigadier General Jean S. Fajardo, director of Police Regional Office 3, lauded the ACPO operatives for their swift response.

In a related development, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin said that the city’s enhanced CCTV surveillance system is a big boost in combatting criminal activities in the city.

Lazatin said the advanced features of the CCTV surveillance system installed at the city command center of Angeles City helps crime prevention and resolution as manifested in last Tuesday’s neutralization of two suspected robbers in Barangay Anunas. (Rudy Abular)
