CLARK FREEPORT – Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap said the city government is set to launch a “Palit Plastic Bottles for Rice” program in order to promote environmental responsibility and to support food security among her constituents.
During the monthly Kapihann of the Pampanga Press Club held at Swissotel Clark on Aug. 7, Mayor Yap said the move to start the Palit Plastic program aims to reduce plastic waste in communities while helping families access basic food staples.
The Mayor is also encouraging residents to exchange collected plastic bottles for kilos of rice, and educate them to segregate their waste.
The program is one of the thrusts of Yap and her administration to inclusive solutions for both ecological and socio-economic challenges.
“This project is about hitting two goals with one action — protecting the environment and providing support to our fellow Tarlaqueños,” Mayor Yap said during the forum.
Designated drop-off points and schedules of collection will be identified across various barangays in the city, ensuring accessibility for every Tatlaqueño.
Collected plastic materials will then be turned over to accredited recyclers and waste management partners.
Meanwhile, aside from garbage, Yap’s administration will also focus on traffic management, improvement of health services and facilities.
