Public school teachers are set to receive their Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) for Fiscal Year 2023 after the Department of Education (DepEd) was declared eligible for the incentive, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced Thursday.

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said the eligibility of DepEd employees, including teachers, affirms President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to recognize the vital role of educators in strengthening the country’s education system.

“Kung wala sila [ating mga guro], wala rin tayo, kaya dapat lang po na patuloy natin silang bigyan ng motivation at nararapat na benepisyo (Without them, we won’t be here, so we must continue to give them motivation and appropriate benefits),” Pangandaman said, as quoted in a DBM news release.

House Committee on Appropriations Chair Mikaela Angela Suansing also confirmed during plenary deliberations on the proposed 2026 national budget that the Technical Working Group on Executive Order No. 61 will convene on Sept. 30 to finalize a resolution formally granting the PBB to DepEd.

Under Memorandum Circular No. 2023-1, agencies must meet requirements under four dimensions of accountability – performance, process, financial, and client satisfaction – and score at least 70 points to qualify for the bonus.

On Wednesday, the DBM announced the release of some PHP1.64 billion for the PBB of the over 110,000 personnel and officials of the Philippine Army. (PNA)
