Legends of Philippine basketball led by former stalwarts of Toyota and Crispa have gathered once again, reliving the golden and glorious days of the professional sports.
In social media, former Toyota player Gil Cortez, the very first Rookie of the Year of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), posted photos of last week’s gathering of the former arch rivals as well as RP Men’s Basketball Team to the 1972 Munich Olympics.
Present among them that night were Jimmy Mariano, Yoyong Martirez and Marte Samson.
In a separate interview, Cortez expressed elation on the friendship that was established amongst players that were once bitter rivals.
“Dati hindi kami pwedeng magkita sa isang lugar. Kung andun ang Toyota wala dapat Crispa. Kung andun ang Crispa, hindi matutuloy ang Toyota,” Cortez said
Former head coach of Toyota Dante Silverio led the gathering, which also celebrated the birthdays of his former players Ompong Segura, Oscar Rocha and Rollie Marcelo.
Toyota icon and 1978 PBA MVP Robert “Sonnie” Jaworski was represented by son Robert “Dudut” Jr. who also played with his Dad in Ginebra San Miguel. He is now vice mayor of Pasig City.
From the Crispa side, seen in photos were Atoy Co, Freddie Hubalde, Padim Israel and Tito Varela. Also present were Ulysees Rodriguez, Ed Cordero Edward Camus, and Nic Bulaong.
The gathering also councided with the 4th anniversary of An Eternity of Basketball, a famous sports podcast on the internet.
