People are returning to cinemas in droves, both here and abroad. Point in fact were the movies Barbie and Oppenheimer, which both opened in July 2023. Barbie was the highest-grossing film of 2023 with $1.445 billion, while Oppenheimer ranked third, grossing just under $962 million worldwide.
Here in the Philippines, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) last December was a big success after the lean pandemic years, prompting several SM Cinemas to extend the run of a number of MMFF entries. They were no longer in a hurry to shift back to Hollywood films.
