
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A medical doctor and a lawyer are among the few professionals who are presenting themselves as alternatives to incumbent mayors in two Pampanga towns through the May 9, 2022 elections.
Dr. Allan Policarpio and Atty. Dennis Pangan, both 53, filed their certificates of candidacy under the Aksyon Demokratiko and Nationalist People’s Coalition, respectively, at the Commission on Elections last Oct. 5.
Using the names “Dok Poli” and “Attorney Pangan,” they are challenging the grips of Mayor Darwin Manalansan and Mayor Norberto Gamboa who are seeking reelection for their third and final term.
Aside from Policarpio, former mayor Eduardo Guerrero is making a comeback. Gamboa is challenged by Pangan and Vice Mayor Reinhart “Soy” Guevarra.
Policarpio and Pangan were civic leaders before they decided to join politics and public governance. Policarpio has been holding medical missions in Floridablanca’s far-flung villages since 1993 and has been helping COVID-19 patients to recover. Pangan headed the legal aid clinic of the San Beda College of Law.
Currently, Policarpio is medical director of the Floridablanca Doctors’ Hospital Inc. while Pangan is president of the Holy Cross College in Sta. Ana.
Policarpio said Floridablanca needs new leaders to to solve the local crises in health, education and livelihood.
With former Mayor Rommel Concepcion as runningmate, Pangan said he wants to prioritize waste management, health care, business and employment.
