In observance of Fire Prevention Month this March, SM Malls in Central Luzon conducted a series of fire safety seminar and drill exercises as part of their advocacy to educate the employees and raise awareness about the hazards and dangers of fire.

SM City Olongapo Central and SM City Olongapo Downtown invited the Bureau of Fire Protection headed by F01 Michael John Tolentino and shared some insights on the Importance of drills and seminars during fire prevention month as well as lectures on kitchen fire safety, proper use of fire extinguisher and other fire safety tips.

SM City Clark, SM City Telabastagan, SM City Olongapo Central, SM City Olongapo Downtown, SM City Tarlac, SM City Cabanatuan, SM City Pampanga and SM City Tarlac regularly conduct seminar and drills for their employees, agencies, affiliates and tenants in order for them to exercise vigilance and be more aware and knowledgeable about fire prevention.

Based on data, the month of March is one of the hottest months of the year and has most alarming fire incidents in the country. It also marks the beginning of the summer season in the Philippines.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the temperature and humidity in March start to reach higher levels, with the hot, dry weather causing a rise in reported fire cases around the country.

Fire Prevention Month was declared by virtue of Proclamation No. 115-A, signed by then-President Ferdinand E. Marcos, and Proclamation No. 360 in 1986.
