Carbon forest in Tarlac launched in global planning event

NEW CLARK CITY – The World Planning Congress (WPC) has ended on a high note with host Tarlac province launching a site for carbon neutrality in order to help fight worsening environment brought about by pollution.

Governor Susan Yap has announced in a “historic congress” that a sizable area in this agricultural province was committed for carbon absorption.

Carbon neutrality is a balance between emitting carbon and absorbing carbon from the atmosphere in carbon sinks.

“More than 5,000 hectares of our carbon forest in the highlands of San Jose (town) will be the location,” Yap said in her speech.

WPC served as the highlight of the 60th anniversary of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), a a non-governmental global association of professional environmental, urban and regional planners.

Yap also cited the New Clark City (NCC) for its role not just in hosting the event but also in helping save the environment.

“NCC is one of Southeast Asia’s largest green fields where 60 percent is devoted to green spaces and water carbon reduction. NCC is one of the latest ecological efforts of Tarlac,” Yap said.

As a takeaway from the gathering of hundreds of urban planners from all over the globe, Yap also sais that Tarlac province is also known to be a best location for combined agri-solar farms in the Philippines.

“Tarlac is an agricultural province deeply connected with nature as we are home to several renewable energy projects, we continue to explore the use of agri-solar farms to harness the power of the Philippines best sun’s radiance while ensuring food security,” she added.
