CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Christmas season is celebrated early in this city as local officials led the lighting of the lanterns and decorations on September 23.

Mayor Vilma Caluag, Vice Mayor BJ Lagman, city councilors and city officials graced the lighting of the giant lanterns and other decorations at the Heroes Hall. Other lanterns and decorations are displayed in key areas and streets in the city.

“We are proud of the tradition and lantern makers,” said Caluag.

“Through the years, the city has built a solid reputation as home of the best craftsmen, the finest lantern makers, and the biggest, brightest and most colorful Christmas Event in the country,” a statement from the City information Office (CIO) said.

Caluag disclosed that five firms were tapped to create the lanterns and decorations. Previously, there were only three firms tasked for the annual project of decorating the city.

Lagman expressed elation over the beauty of the decorations and lanterns. He said they are always ready to give joy to their constituents affected by the pandemic.

The lanterns made in the city gained recognition and support from other areas in the country and abroad.

Marikina City Marcelino Teodoro visited this city earlier this month and marveled at the beauty of the giant lanterns. He reportedly plans to decorate Marikina with the lanterns made in the City of San Fernando.

Caluag was proud when asked about the plans and visit of Teodoro.
