Converge posts rapid growth in Luzon; aims at VizMin areas

Converge is continuing on its exponential growth in Luzon areas even as it targets to make headway in Visayas and Mindanao in the coming years.

Posting 2.5 million household subscribers on pure-fiber technology last year, the Dennis Anthony Uy firm sees a potential 1 million subscriber growth this year.

This was announced by John Paul Aguilar, Senior Vice President and Business Unit Head for National Consumer Business in today’s KapiHann, a media forum of the Pampanga Press Club at the Swissotel in cooperation with Hann Resorts inside Clark Freeport.

The Angeles City-born internet provider aims at providing internet to “underserved and unserved” households in Visayas and Mindanao areas this year, Aguilar said.

The regions in these major islands also comprise 43 percent of the total 24 million households in the Philippines. With the current 2.5 million households on Converge connections, the firm has a batting average of 1 out of 10 households in its fold.

Of the total number of households with internet subscription in the Philippines, less than 50 percent are on fiber technology.

“Converge is making headway in Visayas and Mindanao to complete the picture.
We are very heavy in Luzon now and we are doing good here. Once we roll out for unserved and undeserved households, we would see how the country can catch up in digitalization,” Aguilar said.

“We aim to increase digital penetration and increase the opportunities for (Filipinos) to level up their incomes,” he added.

Aguilar recalled how the company started with offerings of 20mbps internet speed in 2016 to 300mbps average speed – a 15 times jump by Converge.

Converge traces its roots from a video tape rental company in the 1980s and was a cable television provider in Angeles City and other parts of Central Luzon. Today, its offerings include IPTV (internet protocol television) and video on demand with its offerings of fiber internet technology.
