ANGELES CITY — A fire broke out past midnight yesterday inside a public market in Barangay San Nicolas here, burning to death a bedridden man and his wife.

Police Regional Office 3 director Brigadier General Jose Hidalgo Jr. said the charred bodies of Nicolas and Aurora Mangune were recovered by firefighters hours after the fire was put out.

Hidalgo said the couple was trapped inside their house located at 891 Jesus St. corner Plaridel St. in Barangay San Nicolas.

It was learned that the husband had been bedridden for a long time and may be the reason they failed to get out of the house after the fire broke out at around 1 AM.

“Nabigla na lang kami ng nagliyab ang food stall na pagaari ng mag-asawang Nicolas and Aurora Mangune,” said Glene Rose Promo, 35, married and a resident of said place.

Initial investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a faulty wiring, emanating from the Dash Food Station inside the San Nicolas Public Market.

The public market has a food station section which caters to the public and local residents in the said area.

Probers have yet to determine the amount of damages caused by the fire.
